Chapter 1258: Chickened Out
Chapter 1258: Chickened Out
"Just tell Sophie the truth. What’s the big deal? You guys broke up because of a misunderstanding back then." Kai Bright said, puzzled. Was this little thing really worth Charles Seymour’s concern?"What are you worried about? Sophie already knows you went undercover at that time. You joined the experiment because of your disguised identity. Sophie knew your identity back then and even teamed up with you to take down the illegal company."
Kai Bright couldn’t understand why Charles Seymour was so defeated and conflicted.
"Sophie doesn’t mind the experiments done on her. She’s avenged everything; she’s not someone who can’t let go." Charles Seymour spoke slowly, his voice light yet heavy, as if each word drained all his energy. "Only one person makes her hate to the core."
"Who?" Kai Bright asked curiously.
"The person who retrieved Sophie’s eggs back then. Sophie worries that somewhere unknown in the world, she might have a child suffering and she doesn’t want that." As Charles spoke, a bad premonition suddenly arose in Kai Bright’s mind.
"And that person... is me." After Charles finished speaking, he drained his glass completely, the cup slamming onto the table with a thud, making Kai Bright’s mind waver.
"You, you... but Sophie..." Kai Bright tried to say a few words but couldn’t string them into a sentence. Finally, he gave up, shut his mouth, and expressed everything through restless gestures, vigorously messing up his own hair.
Silence fermented in the room, even the light from the incandescent lamp cast a cold and uncomfortable glow.
After a while, Kai Bright finally mustered all his strength, opened his mouth, and tentatively suggested, "How about... you just tell Sophie?"
Charles’s gaze swept over him, and Kai Bright immediately shut up.
Less than a minute later, Kai Bright raised his hand to mess up his hair again, agitatedly saying, "Just tell her, what’s the big deal. If Sophie finds out the person is you, it might not be a big deal."
"What if?" Charles Seymour spoke, his voice full of unrelenting bitterness, "I can’t gamble on that what if."
Kai Bright opened his mouth several times but couldn’t make any sound.
He could understand Charles Seymour’s worries and concerns; Charles couldn’t afford to gamble on that slight possibility.
"You haven’t seen the hatred in Sophie’s eyes." Charles frowned, "Back when we were in the illegal company, I never saw her hate anyone like that."
"Actually, I had planned to confess before marrying her. But..." Charles didn’t finish his sentence, but the meaning was clear.
In this situation, he didn’t dare speak.
"You should be someone different in Sophie’s heart." Kai Bright was sure of this point, yet Charles’s attitude made him uncertain again.
So frustrating!
Want to punch someone!
Charles suddenly showed a self-deprecating smile, his reaction causing Kai Bright’s hair to stand on end. Damn, was Charles possessed by a ghost?
He would actually be self-deprecating?
And even smile!
"I’m scared." Charles admitted, nodding, his fingers tapping rapidly and erratically on the tabletop.
As long as it involved Sophie, he really couldn’t be certain.
He didn’t dare to test, didn’t dare to take the risk... he was afraid of losing Sophie.
