Chapter 1134 - 1133: Conversation
Since they knew their true purpose, Beisitian naturally wouldn’t speculate on what the Nie Family intended to do here. The reason they were retained was likely to avoid arousing public outrage. If they killed these hostages now, and the outside world got wind of it, there would certainly be an outbreak of rage, and not even the Nie Family could withstand such fury. Having the hostages safe and sound was a way to restrain the outside actions, forcing them into a passive position.
The longer the stalemate outside lasted, the longer these hostages could live.
The lace-bordered, dark blue parasol cast a shadow on the lush green grass, and Beisitian sat leisurely in the shade, sipping coffee.
She used to love tea, and she didn’t know when she started finding coffee quite agreeable. Though excessive amounts would affect the body, one cup a day wasn’t too much of a burden.
Beisitian was browsing through the castle’s collection of books, mainly related to local culture and geography with some interesting stories. As she was reading, suddenly a shadow loomed overhead.
Beisitian looked up to see Chu Fenglei seated opposite her.
"You knew all along?" Beisitian asked.
Chu Fenglei looked at her, "If I said I didn’t know, would you believe me?"
Beisitian neither affirmed nor denied, choosing not to speak further.
Chu Fenglei sighed inwardly and said, "We truly didn’t know about this matter, and I’m sure you’ve noticed, the Nie Family has always been our adversary, especially the prominent family sects on the list, which are the main focus of the Nie Family’s guard."
Beisitian smiled, "There’s no need to explain specifically to me."
Chu Fenglei gave a wry smile, "I thought we had established basic trust, Tianyao has considered allying with Qingyu."
Beisitian looked up at him.
"Now, only we and Yunhai know your identity, and the Peng Pavilion has made some guesses, but they’re merely guesses," Chu Fenglei said in a low voice.
Regarding identity, Beisitian naturally knew he referred to the formerly glorious Bei Family, but the past was in the past; the Bei Family no longer existed, and as for the secrets of the Bei Family... secrets aside, they didn’t even have basic information, except for inheriting that genetic blood disorder!
So she genuinely didn’t believe the name Bei held any value for those people. However, she also knew it wasn’t about what she thought she was worth but rather what those others thought of her value.
Whether to form an alliance was a decision Beisitian had yet to make. It was a double-edged sword, and she didn’t trust the intentions of these families known as crocodiles, whether Qingyu could break away after temporary alignment was still unsure.
Without relying on other forces, Qingyu alone was too weak to contend with these ancient families with deep roots!
Currently, the reason Qingyu wasn’t intimidated by these powers was due to the presence of Luo Xudong and Wu Yuekai, two military titans. No one could target Qingyu in Beijing.
But this wasn’t a long-term strategy, as they were merely external forces to the Mystic Doctor. Qingyu’s rise was swift, but lacked any foundation, and none within the sect could fully support them. As for Desan and Qiao Hongjie, they were of the older generation, and true strength must come from the new generation.
Therefore, Beisitian contemplated whether to form an alliance, and whether they could manage matters post-alliance.
